C++11: read or return the contents of a char*?

When writing function that expect to be passed a char*, what is the preferred way to read or return the contents of the char*?
The most common way seems to be to use std::string::c_str(), however it feels like this method should not be used if an alternative is available.
std::string str = “hello”;
char * ch = str.c_str();
// or,
char * ch = “hello”;

For the second option, if I want to return the contents I would do:
const char * get()
char * ch = “hello”;
return ch;

I think you’re missing the point of returning a pointer to a string from a function:
const char * get()
char * ch = “hello”;
return ch;

This is returning a pointer to a string literal. That’s not what you want. You want to return a pointer to a dynamically allocated string:
const char * get()
char * ch = new char[256];
strcpy(ch, “hello”);
return ch;

Personally, I’d use one of the standard library facilities to do it. If it’s a short string, why not return a char* and use strcpy? It’s a one-line function. There’s no reason to create a new temporary std::string just to return the address of the internal buffer.

Metastatic melanoma: combined targeted therapy and immune checkpoint inhibition.
Recent advances in the treatment of metastatic melanoma have introduced exciting new opportunities for patients with this disease. In particular, the combined targeting of multiple molecular pathways in metastatic melanoma with molecular-targeted therapies and immune checkpoint inhibitors has resulted in impressive clinical activity in melanoma. Combining these agents with each other or with dacarbazine increases the response rate of many patients and produces longer responses. The use of immune checkpoint inhibitors with other treatments has been associated with increased response rates and prolongation of survival. These exciting new strategies have the potential to change the standard of care of patients with metastatic melanoma.The World Series of Fighting has provided the platform for a plethora of fights over the years, but for UFC welterweight Johny Hendricks, the promotion that started it all has been disappointing.

“I haven’t seen them do any good fights in a while,” Hendricks told MMAWeekly Radio. “It’s the same old stuff. It’s been going on forever.”

The latest event, WSOF 13, took place earlier this month in Las Vegas and saw Hendricks take on Rick Story for the WSOF lightweight title.

The 32-year-old retired fighter is one of the few active UFC fighters who is not familiar with WSOF, but believes he has the potential to take on the best competition on a regular basis.

“I could do a full camp in WSOF and not even be rusty,” Hendricks said. “I did a full camp for that fight in only four weeks. I was in training camp for two-and-a-half years for the fight.”

Hendricks (13-3) proved he was still one of the sport’s best fighters when he knocked out Mike Pierce in the opening round of their bout. Hendricks has not lost a fight since 2005 and believes he has the chance to win the WSOF belt and potentially earn a shot at UFC title-holder Georges St-Pierre.

“This is my third shot in the UFC,” Hendricks said. “I’ve had three opportunities. I feel like I’ve been better prepared than I was my first two times. I felt like I could beat

What’s New in the?

Update of the UI:

The Workspace, Rulers, and Units Window now display multiple widgets on a single screen, allowing you to view multiple configuration options on the same screen. The primary UI now is now a large area divided into 2 or 3 columns, to maximize screen space for workspaces, rulers, units, and other navigation elements.

Updated Navigation:

To eliminate confusion and ease navigation, the default start location of the floating windows has changed from the New Layout tab to the Home tab. The Layout tab has been replaced by the Workspace tab, and the View tab has been replaced by the Toolbar tab. This change ensures you do not accidentally select New Layout if you don’t want to change your current layout.

Automatic Reorientation:

The Workspace, Units, and Rulers Window and all canvas objects will automatically reorient themselves so that they are displayed in the same orientation as the current drawing viewport. This ensures the objects are always positioned properly and aligned with the drawing.

Update of the Ribbon UI:

The Home tab has been replaced with a new Table of Contents in the top left corner of the UI. The AutoCAD Help menu is located on the Right side of the ribbon (Home, Home, Help) to ensure the menu options are at your fingertips.

The Undo/Redo Window is now located to the right of the ribbon in the Toolbar tab.

The New Menu:

The Ribbon ribbon menu has been replaced with a new menu. The menu is now located at the top of the ribbon, with each button corresponding to a task.

The New Toolbar:

The ribbon toolbar has been replaced with a new toolbar that contains all the most commonly used commands, including:

Home | View | Tools | New | Save As | New Document

The AutoCAD Help menu is now located on the right side of the toolbar.

Extending the Ribbon:

To ensure the ribbon does not interfere with the placement of ribbon commands, we have extended the ribbon to the right side of the drawing, similar to how the Arcs and Extensions tab is positioned.
